On Bicycling's Rate Your Race, the Cape Epic has fallen from a rating of 89% in 2007 to 78% now. Does the fall represent mainly the poor water tables and extra distance? Should I care too much if I don't get an entry for next year?

It seems to me that some race organizers are happy to relax and let standards slide, if they have sell-out numbers, rather than looking at ways to improve each year. Glen Haw and his Sani2c team seem to be the stand-out exception.

Lies, damn lies and Hub statistics.

Rate ur Race is a very rough tool. The most you could say is that the Epic has got good scores in the years mentioned.

crap organisation at water tables this year and crap food or no food. last years food organiser was fired because she was only concentrating on the food section and neglecting her other duties (but we had brilliant food). this year they tried to cut costs and look at all the unhappy people.

To paraphrase Marie Antoinette: Let them eat Powerbars.

No, because you cannot affort to buy something in the race village. We had to pay R15 for a beer, I think a 300ml coke in tin was R10.

2Years back left over t-shirts was sold for +- R200 (THOSE BLUE ONES WITH THE YELLOW BIKES ON THE FRONT) I know because I baught one in 2006 already and they look the same.

dirty tables, There was no plastic bags to put your plates and coffue cups in, So if you was first in the morning or evening to eat, you had a clean table.

If you are later or have to wait for a seat, the previous guys, dirty stuff stands on the table and you have to move it to put yours down.

There was no bags or drums to chuck your stuff in after you ate.

One of those media entries sound like a plan...! Thumbs%20Up

Well, I guess there are always those who don't carry enough water from the start...I think the race nutrition service is a winner of an idea...do they have that in races abroad?

We should consider though at some point that a 8/9 day race would inevitably be more challenging and demanding to organise. I'm no expert but I'd imagine the logistics boffins at the Sani2C would confirm that organising a race which moves over 8/9 days is somewhat tougher to put on than a 3 day event?

I'm holding out for my entry regardless and of course you're more than welcome to pass yours on if I don't get mine!!!!!!
