  1. 1. Do you do it?

    • I only text when I am stationary at traffic light, I know it is still illegal but I pay the fine and it has nothing to do with you.

    • I only use my phone when I need the GPS function, yes it illegal but I need to find my destination.

    • I text and drive, I have not killed anyone YET

    • I don’t touch my phone while driving, will stop to text or get GPS ready.

Every single person in this thread has used their phone while driving recently. Even if it's to answer a Bluetooth connected call or glance at a message that pops up... Or responded with a quick yes or no... If you say you haven't you're lying.

Interaction with the phone by pressing a button on the steering wheel to answer a call is not illegal nor dangerous as normally you dont LOOK at the button you just press it by feel the same what I change radio station and volume on my cars steering wheel.

WRT to texting a quick "Whatever" = I dont. / can not as my phone is in my pocket.

no, as far as I know it's not grounds to deny a claim. They used to hammer on about this pretty hard at the marketing roadshows.

Damn, well we can only hope that more insurance companies will follow.

Then maybe ONE day they can all have a "phone usage exclusion"

One of my daughter’s school friend’s mom is in the short term insurance business. She says that they (Disco) can deny claims if rules of the road were broken at the time of the accident/incident.

Discovery clim, on their T&Cs that they don’t and use the tracking device to verify your location at the time it happened, as well as profile your driving habits (risk profile).

Personally, I’d prefer to stick to the rules and not have to worry about the “what if”. As mentioned before, it’s a lifestyle change, so I’m comfortable with it. I’d rather have a harsh braking penalty than a claim for rear-ending some other plonker on the road.

I think insurance firms use actual Whatsapp (or the like) history, or phone call logs in their forensics.

It needs to be something more black and white than the apps.

I had the Dialdirect driving app, and it was appallingly accurate.

Last week I was on my way to buy a bike, stationary at an intersection waiting to turn when I was driven into from behind and my car written off. Pretty sure the guy was looking at or had been distracted by his phone (straight road, broad daylight and there was no emergency braking before impact).

That second or 2 of glancing down and interacting with the phone is all it takes to seriously endanger yourself and others on the road. It really isn't worth it.

Welcome to the hub, sorry about your accident. It's crazy out there, that's for sure.

And people still say "it is none of your bussiness when I text and drive behind you, you are not a cop"
