Doing Stage races for a Cause.

Maybe hubland can clarify this.

I see and have heard many different version off how people do fund raising.

I heard someone asking a non-profit to pay for an entry, and then they "promise" they will raise 100K but the entry fee will be deducted from the 100K so the company will end up with around 38K "profit"

Ohh and the best part is the person wanted a tax certificate for 100k for his business. WTF?

Then there are the others who is riding some big race for a cause, and open a "account" on either back a buddy or give a gain etc. Where we can donate towards that cause.

Now what I want to know, is it acceptable for the riders to deduct any amount from the funds raised towards their entry fee for the race and only give the rest to said non-profit?

I have personally done stage race to raise funds for a non-profit but every time I paid my entry and ALL funds raised went to the non-profit.

What is the accepted practise?

I think it is total bollocks.

Everyone else pays your way, and now you want donor money to go towards your 'fun'?

if you are a media personality then you have more of a leg to stand on, but if you're joe bloggs then you're just a freeloader.

Agree 100% - that sounds like a scam. If you want to raise money and do the race, pay for it yourself and give the money raised to the charity.

******* okes will look for an angle on everything

Yeah sounds like a scam to me. Agree 100% with you. Raise funds by doing the race, but pay your own way - otherwise that fundraising is just an excuse to get other people to pay for your fun.
