Look, always been some shenanigans around 2022 I reckon. So many questions.

Shenanigans around most awarded world cups.. 2010 is a good example

That’s true. 2022 however was very weird in that FIFA broke process regarding announcements etc. Platini is already banned because of it. Wonder what else going to be unearthed.

African teams not doing so well at the World Cup. Possibly none will qualify an wearing rose tinted glasses 2 may go through. We wait n see.

Likely situation is one will advance based on one of 4 best 3rd place finishers. Hopefully some African ladies get overseas contracts an with that experience etc.

Come on now guys...

Women’s Professional Football is supported on totally another level in Europe, USA and Asia and African Women’s Football is still in its relative infancy.

In saying that, I can tell you that the quality of football played by South Africa and Nigeria Women’s Football teams has been quite good to watch. (The only Africa teams that I watched)

SA were unfortunate to be in a group of seeded teams, including previous World Cup winners and current favorites. So I for one believe that the experience and competition will stand them in good stead going forward. I admired the efforts against the worlds best, irrespective of the results.

Give the ladies a break and support the efforts instead of the result sometimes.

Bar that penalty an retake Nigeria probably would of been guaranteed to advance as best of 3rd place finishers. Entertaining game.

USA have traditionally done very well at WC without much of a footballculture. Africa has a rich football culture.

Women’s World Cup being held every 4 years since 1991. So 7 plus the current one.

Nigeria have been to the finals fairly regularly.

Only 2 African teams ever progressed out of groups. Nigeria in 1991 an Cameroon in 2015. Both lost their knockout matches. No African team have ever won a knockout game at the finals.

RoddieJ, maybe we should be less accepting of mediocrity just cos it’s Africa. Nigeria certainly have been to many tournaments. It’s a country of 150 odd million an has the resources to excel. It hasn’t yet but let’s hope they qualify an kick ass

Agreed on the Nigeria game and result.

I think the football culture in the USA has transitioned lately. The highest paid Women’s Football Player is from the USA...

All women want to play in the USA Women’s Football League. It is a very prominent sport that gets lots of attention and support in the states. The are consistently in the top 4 in World Cups

I hear you...

So how many local Women’s Football League matches do you attend annually?? I haven’t attended so I’m speaking from reports. Also, the numbers of countries in the World. Cup has just increased, allowing previously fringe-qualifiers an opportunity. Hence, countries such as SA are now getting there.

Remember, England’s Men’s Football Team has only ever won the World Cup once in about 100 years...

Women's football is the States is huge.

Womens football is changing world wide, all the Chinese super clubs have to have a womens team from next season, big strides from next season in Argentina too, if you compare the women's football in Argentina to the womens hockey, huge difference, the female hockey players are gods in Argentina, so very good to see a solid investment coming to women's football side too.

Italy have as mentioned made massive strides the last few years and more coming, so it is all good.. but it takes time.

SA are ranked 42nd in the world and played against...

Germany (2);

Spain (12);

China (15)

And let’s also take into consideration that these are countries providing top class Women’s Football facilities and opportunities for many years.

So to call the efforts of countries who have been eliminated ‘mediocre’ I think is a bit harsh.

I bet there are not many guys or girls in this world who can even show a certificate of attendance as a World Cup participant... So all I was saying is let’s not be so harsh in judgement

Did not mean za but Africa in general.

Think ZA did well. ESP against Spain.

In 7 tourneys to only progress twice out of groups an never having won a knockout game is mediocre considering the culture of football in Africa.

An don’t blame lack of leagues or infrastructure, that just adds gasoline to the fire.

Ag nee man that was a soft penalty..sigh, they are dishing them out at this WC.

Those 3rd place slots becoming scarce.

Now I suspect that only 1 side will qualify. Cameroon would need to win by 2 else Nigeria will qualify.
