Saints have a job to do today!

It’s not so far-fetched you see... Go Saints!

Not to be. Pity. Next season.

Now something which has been discussed before.

European Super League: Uefa and Premier League condemn 12 major clubs signing up to breakaway plans https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56794673

I actually think it might be a good thing. Although I doubt it will happen anytime soon. Problem is the top ‘tier’ sides are in a league of their own anyway. See how uefa an the fa are squirming.

More on this. Appears it’s a go.

European Super League: Premier League's 'big six' agree to join new league https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56795811

If FIFA stop players at the World Cup that could be a big issue although realistically I don’t think they could legally.

This in addition to their normal commitments. Might be a case of too much football.

It's going to be a football war for the next few months.. Bottom line is that the clubs aren't making the money under the current format that they feel they should be earning.. The governing bodies make the bulk (no surprise of course.. From TV rights, advertising to gaming rights etc etc etc and it's no secret that they are corrupt ) and the teams have become gatvol.. DAZN have said they they will pay €3.5b for the TV rights for the Super league

UEFA will need to reform the current earnings and format of European club competition.. Sport evolves and so does the business structure of it.. This is a power play forcing a change to the current format.

UEFA have now approached the EU so we'll see... Clubs have released statements and they are worth a read.

Still making my mind up on the Super League...

Strong response and outcry from most fans, but I'm not going to be swept away and just go blindly along with that... well not yet at least.

In general there is always a strong reaction to change, and it's hard to always see the long term affects, but these are the thoughts I have so far.

I don't like the guaranteed status of the 6 teams... 4 or 5 maybe, but this nailed in for life golden status doesn't sit too well and I can see it not going down well with the Leicester, Everton, West Ham, Leeds of the world. How those 5 extra slots will be allocated I don't know yet, but I would assume another English team could grab one. I'm guessing the expected other 3 teams in the league will be German? Or maybe Bayern, Dortmund and PSG?

I don't care how unhappy this makes FIFA... seriously, I've got no time for them.

As much as I see people complaining about their clubs joining this league, I don't see any team necessarily having had the power to stop this... and I can only imagine the uproar if any of the teams who are part of this had declined. Things change, the world moves on, you adapt or die.

$3.5 billion is game changing... as a Spur fan, we pay off our stadium in one shot, we hold on to Harry Kane and we upgrade our squad and hopefully our manager another 20%

For the clubs missing out, I'm not sure they're losing all that much... with 6 English teams in the comp, they've actually probably got more of a shot making it into this comp than they did with the Champions League. You come 7th in the league and could make this... assuming there is a qualification spot available. The second thing is the trickle down affect of the money in this comp, this is next level and with the extra games, all these teams will be needing more players and probably be paying even more over the top fees for the best players. You will also have teams coming 10th in the Premier League still getting European football?

It will be sad not to have the Ajax, Porto, Rangers, Atalanta, RB Leipzig etc in there, but maybe they will still have a fair crack every now and then.

Lots to ponder and lots to still learn... but I'm not putting on my Doom and Gloom hat just yet - interesting times

FIFA - UEFA same WhatsApp group.. It's time to shake things up IMO.

What the best way of it is I donno but a change was requested and because they (UEFA) have the power they didn't want a reform.. Now the clubs have called their bluff..

Now we sit back and wait.. Worth noting that they are planning to incl women's teams at a point too.

What I will say is they aren't messing around... Agreements for TV rights (DAZN) as well as financing (rumoured) JP Morgan

Yeah, I think they knew they needed to have all their ducks in a row before coming out with it...

You look at the power and support of those 12 clubs and you're looking at a guess, probably 70% of the worlds football fans... bring in Bayern, Dortmund and PSG and you're in full control.

FIFA/EUFA of course panicking, but this is nothing more than they deserve. We live in a global open market and they will be just fine with milking World Cups and European championships for money still

I agree

And it not like they are a bunch of idiots.. Some very very capable businessmen involved here... I wo der how many spo sponsors they've already secured.

The German and French teams won't get on board atm.

This is some power struggle going on here [emoji1787]

If there is any truth to it.. PSG win the CL by default then[emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji106]

I don't think the super league will happen.. I think UEFA will reform the current competition as requested many many times.. Look European club competition has changed over the course of decades...it is not new.. UEFA must decide if they want to be part of that change.

I can see many a happy hubber

Happy days! Actually fancy our chances this weekend a bit better now  :w00t:

Pity City lost on Sat, not a team that you need motivated, but finals are funny things!

They thought they'd sneak it in today and hope no-one notices. [emoji1787]
