Hi all,

Just bought a brand new carbon MTB and Id like to protect the frame and certain high rub / were areas with a clear tape type of coating. Race Face was a brand we used in the MX circles but will be to think and heavy for MTB.

Can you recommend a suitable product and where best to get it from.

Many thanks

Cheap way is to get some clear vinyl for cars and cut some sections from that. Can look very professional (if you look very close of course) if you do it properly. You can get wrap like that from most china malls - those auto shops that sell exhaust tips and stuff. I did the sides and bottom of my bottom tube and most of the top tube.

You can go to any signage company and ask for off-cuts of heavy duty clear Self Adhesive Vinyl.  Apply it using a spray bottle with soapy water to avoid bubbles.

If you have R700 to spare, contact VPS - just google it.  They use that anti-scratch film they put on cars.  Excellent product and will look the bees knees!

There’s also a company in the UK called Invisiframe (I think) who make kits for each different bike in each frame size that cover every single bit of the bike, extremely neatly. Does cost a fair amount though and the postage alone is £24.00.
