Help With Frame Size

Hey guys,

So I currently ride a Scott Genius 2018 but I am not looking at the Merida One Forty, sadly there aren't any Mediums left in the country and the bike really ticks all of my boxes.

So, I was looking at the geometry of both bikes and my Medium Genius fits me perfectly. So I thought let me look at the Merida Small. I am no pro at these things but doesn't the Merida Small look pretty much the same as the Medium Genius when looking at the measurements? What will make the Merida too small for me then?

I really want the Merida and will buy the Small if someone with good knowledge can assist me here. I am 1.71 tall and leg inseam is 83cm if that helps.

Seems like you're trying to talk yourself into a bike that's a bit small from you. The Scott medium looks quite a bit bigger on paper. I really don't know much but if the Scott is a great fit, the smaller Merida doesn't seem like a good idea. No point buying a the right bike in the wrong size.

No, it's not the same.

Small Merida will definitely be too small. Your ETT measurement is currently quite  abit larger, so if you get the small you'll be extremely cramped when pedalling in the saddle (most of your time on the bike) unless you get a stem which is 30mm longer. And that is NOT an option on a bike like the 140. Also, the reach on the Genius is far longer. Which is better.

So, no. Don't do it. Not even the same as the PYGA, which only has the reach as the same. Every other measurement on the 140 is far smaller than both bikes.

Bad idea.

Don't do it. Take it from me - I have just spent a wad of cash on a frame that is too small for me - reach, and all other measurements fine, but effective top tube too small, which like Myles said is where you spend most of your time. You will feel very cramped when climbing!

There will be other issues like your seatpost having to be extended very far out of the frame.

No matter how good a deal on a bike, if it is the wrong size, it's a crap deal - just don't do it to yourself!

EDIT: I replied before I saw your last post - I see you made the sensible choice!

I will begrudgingly take your EVIL off of your hands...No need to thank me
