SRAM GXP bearing replacement

I have a SRAM S1400 crank and my bearings are completely finished.

The crank is like the one at this link: https://www.sram.com/sram/mountain/products/s-1400-crankset

They seem to have a bunch of different BB options, but I'm fairly certain mine is GXP, it says GXP on the spider just like in the picture, as well as on the bearing cover thing under the crank.

I've found this set of bearings: http://summitbikes.co.za/index.php?id_product=634&controller=product

Does anyone have any idea if these bearings are right for my crank, or have any idea how to find out?

It seems to be the right thing, just based off the fact that its advertised as GXP bearings.

What threw me off though is that the product on the enduro website (or the thing that looked closest to the same product) seems to say that it's for road bikes, but I'm not sure if there's a difference between road and mtb BBs.

I have not seen any success with trying to replace bearings only. Although it is possible I am sure. Tried it once with another bottom bracket, they lasted a month.

There is an adapter for the Shimano BB that can be used to fit for GXP. The Shimano bearings are half the price of GXP. I have one on my bike which a friend made for me.

Knock the bearings out the cups carefully with a socket that fits with minimal clearance. Put new bearings in the freezer for about an hour to shrink them slightly. After an hour and once cups are clean put them into a container, pour boiling water onto them and allow to get warm. Remove one at a time, quickly wipe dry and cold bearing will seat using minimal force by hand minimising any damage to the bearing races. Make sure they are seated all the way and flush in the cups.

You have not seen any success replacing the bearings only because while fitting the bearings they have been put under stress. Only way to fit bearings properly is by shrinkage of bearings and expansion of carrier. Dry ice is a better alternative to the deep freeze.

Thanks guys for your info.

So to make sure I've got it right - Those Summit bearings are most likely the correct ones, but Martin suggests that its easier to just replace the whole bb.

If the bearings are the right ones, I think I'll give it a shot to try heat the cups and cool the bearings. If it doesn't work out, its only R250 lost - If it does work, well then I'll be saving money for years to come instead of always replacing bb's.

It depends on the age of the BB. That kit will fit some of the older ones, but the newer ones have a slightly different spec that makes them not work with the replacement kits.

The best option IMO is to get a BB from WheelsMFG - it'll cost about double what a GXP unit does, but replacement bearings are available individually from most Enduro stockists - we charge R 150 a side fitted as an indication.
