Commuting puncture protection. What do you run?

I've been commuting for quite a few years and got tired of always fixing punctures. I researched as much as I could and based on reviews Schwalbe Marathon Touring Tyre seemed to come out tops most times (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/schwalbe-marathon-touring-tyre-greenguard/rp-prod69133)

Never had a puncture with them in more than 2000km despite all the usual garbage on the Cape Town roads. 

They're also capable of 6-7 bar inflation which is nice if you're on the heavier side or need to cart a desk with you.

An added bonus: the rolling resistance is the lowest of all touring tyres, about equivalent to Gatorskins (https://www.bicyclerollingresistance.com/tour-reviews/schwalbe-marathon-2015).

Awesome. Just repaired my tubeless setup after yesterdays slashfest. Going to give the marathon plus a go so I ordered some in the meantime. Honestly the last thing you want to think about when commuting is whether or not it will involve some running with the bike. The marathon plus makes sense. Haven't run tubes in ages. Going to be interesting.

I used to commute to work. I rode my MTB as I could hop on pavements, ride on cycle paths etc.

 

I have used tyre liners and in 5 years or so, only ever got one puncture. That was a nail that went through my tyre, through the liner, through the tube and through the rim.

 

I have had a lot of success with liners and swear by them. Most here on the hub don't like them and prefer tubeless.

 

I am also a person that prefers a higher pressure tyre on my MTB, which is probably why I don't need tubeless.

No friggen way!

Yip, been running them tubeless for yonks and have done plenty distance with them.  Had them on my MTB as well.  They do not even bleed.  Run them up to 5 bar.

Seriously, the only way I would use them.  I have 25 up front and I think 32 on the the rear.

Cool. Going to be interesting getting the wire bead up. May have to actually go to the garage this time. Did you go full raw or ghetto tubeless?

Full and proper set up.  No Ghetto.

Now that you mention it, I did have a problem with mounting the bead over the rim.

Ja. Read that. Think most people don't make use of the well in the middle of the rim bed and end up getting stuck. Cool. I'll go to the garage for a seat session. If I puncture big enough to unseat next to the roadside, I'll just pop in a tube. There shouldn't be too many thorns/nails to fish out before putting the tube in. This is going to be bomb proof.

On a side note. If anyone ever sukkels with leak around the valve stem (tubeless now), cut a hole in a normal tube patch and place it as an additional soft washer over the valvd stem before punching it through the rim tape, screw it down tightly with needle nose pliers. Airtight albeit ghetto.

If you run tubes make sure that you check the inside of tyre to find the offending object.  If you don't you may find yourself fixing the same puncture over and over.

WTB 40C Nano Tubeless, at 4Bar, mixed Stan's Race and Stans Regular sealant 50/50, doing 50km to 80km per day. Not had to stop yet to fix puncture.
