weekday training rides...

Newcomer to the hub here..

Just wanting to know if there are any folks in Pretoria east who would be keen to ride together early on weekday mornings (Tuesday and Thursday). I joined my universities cycling "club" (tukscycling) two years ago, and have been a paying member for two years... but have never been invited for a club ride or to an AGM.

They have a "core" group of riders who seem to train together, but the rest of us don't seem to matter to them. Are there any other members who know what one has do to to be invited to their "core" club rides (also, really poor form to only extend participation to your "core" group buddies and post images all over social media while you are taking money from paying members whom you never invite to anything) anyway, hopefully we'll be starting a real club for people who want to do this sort of thing next year, but in the meantime, are there any folks who want to put in a twice weekly hour or two climbing hills?

Usually ride from 4:30-6:30 am, but not so keen on riding alone in this city..

Alternatively, does anybody know of shop/clubs in the East of Pretoria that do club rides in the week? maybe I can just join one of those clubs instead...

Welcome and cool name lol.

I had the same issue about 4-5 years ago at NMMU, joined the club, went to speak to the club manager more than once, was invited once but no one pitched that day- go figure. I ended up seeking club rides from the local shops and that went much better.

In fact, the ASG Store (awesome bunch of people and gorgeous ellsworth bikes) in  Olympus may be a perfect starting point. If you're interested, you can pm me your number and I'll ask Johan to add you to the group and then you can ask if someone there is interested.

thanks, thought of joining bruce reineke cycles (as they are great and I service my bike there) but I think their club rides are only on weekends (and weekends are for mountain biking!)

Are you referring to the reineke one or ASG? ASG has road and mtb weekends, sometimes during the week too.

Send info@velo.co.za an email and hear if you can tag along one Saturday (that's what I did before I joined) and see how you cope with the various groups' pace. Tuesdays and Thursdays are usually the A guys, and it's north of 33kph average speed.

Between ASG and Reineke... Sorry, wasn't too clear there.

Ah, right. Well I've never heard of bruce reineke cycles nor hear it mentioned before, so don't think they are the same. The ASG group has a no drop policy so you may like it.

Regardless, good luck with the search, I hope you find a group!

Two different clubs.

ASG has a shop and rides from their shop up in Olympus Village.

Not sure about times and weekday rides.

Everyone welcome and weekends they will serve you a coffee afterwards.

Bruce has a club called Select.

Very snobbish and you are only allowed to ride with if you are a paid up member.

Saturday rides are "fast" and Sunday rides are typically slow with a couple of girls joining.

Beware, Tuesday and Thursday morning pace is rapid, @Spinnekop can attest.

Velo is a good place to start.

Everyone welcome.

Tuesdays are pretty hard and is up there with racing speed.  Come prepared.  60km round trip starting at 5:15

Thursdays are way more relaxed with a couple of ladies joining in.  Same loop as Tuesdays.

Saturdays they normally have an A and a B group.

Starting at 6am.

80-120km

No rides on Sunday.
