Monark Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 thanks the banter guys --- this was an in-house FUN project we did //// we worked with RBC in Port Elizabeth on the tweaks and final assembly. the guys from Cape Cycle Systems ( SRAM Importers to SA ) were also very helpful with the idea of mixing ROAD and MTB to make this bike happen. with the MUNGA only a few days away we will be following the event closely and hope to see some VIPA ULTRA's on the startline come 2019 -- the bike was designed and developed with Stage Races / Marathons and events like the MUNGA / Freedom Challenge in mind. general comments and feedback on the bike has been " i'd ride that! " - so who knows ... maybe we end up producing something like this? I think its very cool, our country with its open dirt roads is almost the perfect place for this bike
Knersboy Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 I like the idea of those bars for gravel roads. My hands suffer much more on the mtb than the road bike.
Dicky DQ Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 Looks like the perfect build for ultra endurance races. I would get rid of the dropper and add an additional water bottle cage on the seat post though - I know 2 bottles was not enough for me at 36One, and that was with water points every 30km or so - it gets hot in the Karoo! The dropper wont work anyway as there is typically going to be a large bag attached to the seatpost
Dicky DQ Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 i know there's corrugationsif i did Munga, i'd go hardtail. and load it up like this(sans sleeping kit) http://www.bikepacking.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Tour-Divide-Rigs-2018-Thomas-Woods-1-2000x1334.jpg maybe put on a thudbuster seatpostYou will loose the water bottles in a blink of an eye at the first corrugations.
