Must do Races

Plenty of weekend races from Stonehaven Vanderbijlpark (almost every week), they short at around 60km and don't count for anything but take the family along as there's a restaurant and play area for the kids. Races that do count, Fast One from Midvaal raceway Jan, RFS in Boksburg in Feb, Emeprors in March, Wilro at Tarlton in April and 100 cycle challenge in May.

And You need to be part of a club if I am correct or not??

You do not have to join a club to get CSA membership and ride open seeded, merely CSA and prov membership.

One can ride open seeded without membership too.

Has the fast one improved ?

I used to do the original ones when it was still hyper to hyper, then skipped a few and did the second one after it was moved to Midvaal. Found it was boring and had lost the appeal of the H2H ones. That was the last one I did, but if things have improved since then maybe I'll try it again.

Awesome info chaps

+100000000000...although I haven't been privileged enough to do a LOT of road races (mainly the Gauteng races, Bloem and Argus), but have done Kremetart twice and must be the happiest day/s on the saddle of my bike. It's a bit of a drive, but a MUST...try to plan it into your schedule in the next year or 3    make a lekker weekend of it...one day road race with 175km's devided into 4 stages...you can thank me later  :w00t:

This looks fantastic and will definitely be on my bucket list, maybe not this year but hopefully next along with CTCT

Pretty much all the local races mentioned are boring and should only be done for seeding/training IMHO. Ride for sight is good if you doing Argus to get an idea of your time you will do at ArgusCTCT. Carnival city is probably the most well organised race in Gauteng. The kremetart is not local but it should definitely be done at least once.

But you asked for must do races to improve 947. So how many weeks do you want to train for? Are you including a base in winter? What time would you like to do at 947?

WRT a license, I would get a normal CSA license and not a domestic racing license.

All these local races are great, will try do the Carnival race for sure aswel RFS

Im looking to use this next year as training. So ill be using most weekends and one or two days during the week to get some time in. Winter being no exception, I do a lot of trail running and take part in most OCR events and the winter training brings out the best in me. It's in this time that you find out who you really are and what you are made of (Farmer carries at 5am in the freezing cold is no joke) So ill be using the same mentality come winter. I would like to get into a decent training program to help but that's not essential

My 2c worth:

A day licence is R35 per event compared to the R325 to purchase a CyclingSA membership (R250 for CSA and R75 for your region).

325 / 35 = 9.28571428571

You can effectively do 9 races before a membership works out cheaper. The membership benefits are not that good, but there's a few threads that discuss this in more detail.

This was my thinking after i posed the question and had a look at the prices. Makes more sense to just do the day license

There's plenty local (Jhb & Pta) races

Berge en Dale (23 Feb at Cradlestone Mall)

Emperors Palace Classic (Can't find 2019 date)

Try an Audax or 2 at 200 k's :whistling: - there are a couple in that area. (http://audaxsa.co.za)

Satellite Classic (normally October)

Tshwane Classic (Early November)

Carnival City Macsteel National Classic

Lost City Challenge

Rand Water Race for Victory

Mogale Spring Race

100 Cycle Challeng (5 May 2019)

The races at Stonehaven are quick (and cheap)

Highly recommended.
