Gribbletjie Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 Hi, I've just started cycling on this route in the mornings and afternoons without any issues. I would like to know if I should keep to daylight hours on this route or is it safe to travel this route in the dark as well. Have anyone encountered strange situations on this route.
Robbie Stewart Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 The stretch from Melkbos to Paarden Island is okay, but once you cross over to the N1, either via the cyclepath, or on the road, is dodge. Many bikejackings occur there. Never go it alone. Never after dark.

devocean Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 Stick to Marine drive and the N1 and no problem if it's light or dark, provided you have lights on your bike

DJR Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 PM Hairy and find out where and what time you can meet their commuting group. They are a group of up to 20 guys who ride that route on a daily basis and riding with them will add hugely to your safety.

Just watch out at the new cycle path at La paloma the cars do not look out for bikes here. I tried to spray warning on the road surface at the intersection but cyclist ignore it. Yesterday i witnessed a car missed a cyclist by cms. Cyclist is to blame as there are signs up " Cyclist give way to cars"

I tell myself if a cyclist is so stupid to try take on a car in clear violation of the road sign, then so be it. Apparently a lady was carted of to ER after connecting with a car there last year.

Yup there was an indecent, more than 50% of cycles just bolts through and its a accident bond to happen. My next option is to install a Speed bump for the cyclist
