Geronimo Posted February 17, 2019 Share Anyone switched from 5800 or 6800 to the new R7000? Would like to hear how you find it in comparison with 5800 or 6800?I recently bought the R7000 not because there was anything wrong with my 6800 groupset. It was a want not a need .Looks really sweet on my bike, much nicer looking than 6800.I think shifting is as smooth as with my 6800 and the hoods are pretty comfy. No idea what the weight difference is but it can't be more than a hundred odd grams??I've never ridden a bike with Dura-Ace so can't make any comparisons and I'm sure it will shift even smoother but this R7000 is seriously (in my humble opinion) all you need. There is no sense in spending a good few thousand more on R8000. I'm super stoked with the R7000

Eldron Posted February 17, 2019 Share Eldron you're a man of knowledge . What's your take on the R7000?I really like it. I think the current 105 has the smallest gap between it and the Ultegra/Dura Ace. Unless you're a hard core racer where lower friction coupled with less weight had real world benefits I reckon the 105 is the sweet spot in the price/quality ratio calculation. All that excludes pride of ownership of course :-) Me - I'm an Ultegra / DA guy. I use Ultegra for wear items and DA for fixed items. Eldron Posted February 18, 2019 Share I just had a look at the Shimano TEC docs and the R7000 is pretty neat. New toggle FD, 15mm adjustable STI levers, max 34t cassette, hollow tech cranks, 140mm disc Nice! No cam lock on the RD but I reckon they'll release one soon (like the GX Ultegra). supertorro Posted February 19, 2019 Share Just finished a build with 105 group kit. Very nice. The gears change, the brakes work, the cranks go round and round. It works. Don't have another comparison or enough time with it to comment any further Edited February 19, 2019 by supertorro Geronimo
Geronimo Posted February 19, 2019 Share It's definitely better than the previous 105 (5800). Attach a photo of your build
