Dual sus - Vipa trail or what else?

Nice bike. I need a large frame though.

Thanks for the other comments. So the Vipa's stays do flex, but is that lateral or vertical flex?

Also, the comments re: the travel are helpful. I can understand that 100mm travel with a slacker head angle is better than 100mm on a steep head angle. I'm not an XC racing snake, so 120mm would make a difference to me. Also, I don't weigh 60kg.

I do a mix of trails and gravel riding. I ride around the jumps (if you go around them fast, does it still count?). I currently have a HT with 100mm travel and it bounces all over the place on some of the trails.

I'll see if I can try out a few different bikes. 100mm on a DS will already be a massive improvement on my current bike. Anybody have comments on what the cons are of the Vipa trail 1 (2x set up). It's going for a really good price at the moment.

Oh, and I'd like to fit 2 bottles ;). Not to keen on "self locking" proprietary shocks.

So you are basically looking for a Spaz Camber?

I own a 2017 VIPA Race One - this would be the XC version, I can certainly say that the rear triangle does have a fair bit of lateral not vertical flex. At first I thought that the slightest bump would snap the stays like toothpicks. However, nearly two years on, I could not be happier. Have thrown a few hectic descents its way and it has come out tops.

Of course, with carbon, there is always that risk, not matter the manufacturer, that things can go pear shaped fast.

Asking which bike on here I have noticed is like asking who has the best girlfriend. Each 1 will try and convince you which is better.

At 36k for a full carbon bike sounds good. There's quite a few bikes in that price range. Can have a look at old stock Spaz, Trek, Scott etc.

Don't think you will find a carbon frame but spec might be as good or better.

Best thing to do is take your time shop around and test as many as you can.

You will know when you have thrown your leg over the right one!

Thanks for the replies. I wanted to find out about the flex issue with the Vipa’s stays.

Think I’ll look at something other than the Vipa. I know there is a premium on new bikes, but at least you get some sort of a warrantee. I’d be worried about cracks in a second hand frame if I don’t know the bike.

I suspect you've never held the frame and rear wheel in your hand and tried to move it...Chain and seatstay flex for days. And let's be serious..Trans Baviaans is not MTB riding. It's not going to "test your bike".

Cue butthurt response in 3, 2, 1......

Nah, I'm too old to be baited into butthurt responses. I just know I've been doing this ish for 25 years and can appreciate a nice solid bike, having gone through quite a few bikes and brands throughout the years. Use it, don't use it.
