Cheap Speed/Cadence Device

Hi Guys/Girls

 

Looking for a cheap device to measure speed and cadence. This is to measure progress of a BMX athlete so the most important measurements of improvement is cadence and acceleration. There is no need for HR or GPS. 

 

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Not too keen on strapping a R20k phone to my kids bike though. I had a look at the wahoo BT but im so scared of messing up my phone. Its too important for work.

Pretty sure a cheap bike computer you get off the shelf works to records both cadence and speed. Even checkers have some now.

I've got an old Polar S510.

The HR strap battery is flat, but the speed and cadence sensor still worked when I took it off the bike in November. Also have the handlebar mount for the watch.
