I see Outsurance  has comprehensive bike cover; Any specific problems related to it, that I should know about? It looks quite good to me.

I got a quote

Road bike insured for 30K

MTB insured for 15K

Premium + 170.00 p/m

currently paying 240.00 p/m for road bike only insured for 15K

So Outsurance really does beqat them hands down, but i have no experience with the following.

How well do they pay out on a claim

What is their annual increase inpremiums ( have heard once they have your business they load the premium after a while) but this is just what i've heard maybe just a rumour.

Anyone else on the hub use Oursurance and can make a comment????

madmarc, the sister has her car insured through them and up to now (2 accidents later) we've had no problems whatsoever.  Don't know about theft though.....

Posted

My bike was insured with them, it was stolen from my house during a robbery - they paid out the purchase price without any hassle (minus excess of R1500).

they paid quickly and assessor was chasing me not vice-versa!

Gummie and madmarc, what's their excess percentages, etc?  And do they cover for the bike being stolen from a bike rack?

I'm not  sure but i'm looking at moving my entire insurance over to Outsurance so i'll be looking into al those things shortly

Mine was stolen from inside my house.

excess you can set - obviously higher the excess the lower the premiums, my R1500 was the excess on the whole burglary, not just the bike.

Their premiums do say that the bicycle needs to be out of site while being transported (ie in a boot or under tarpaulin)... but check with them.

Madmarc, when I wanted to moce my car insurance to them they told me to change my immobiliser. It was a factory fitted central locking system that came with my brand new car. I told them to get stuffed. Just look out for these small things.

Thats another thing i'm gonna check. What happens if i'm working on my bike and i accidently break something - like drop the chainring and bend it or strip a crank thread while using the crank puller etc.

I just spoke to a consultant and there is a very specific exclusion. Bikes on a bike rack (even if locked to it), if they are unattended and they are stolen, you are NOT covered.
