Barberton road routes?

I'm possibly heading to Barberton for a family weekend soon and want to take a road bike for a bit of a pedal. I don't know the area so does anyone have suggestions for 40-60km rides?

There are three good routes:

 

1. Barberton to Kaapmuiden

2. Barberton to Nelspruit

3. South towards Swaziland (hill climb).

Barberton - Nspt is a good quality road, with a shoulder

Barberton - Kaapmuiden was badly in need of a resurface the last time we rode a Jock there, not sure abt the current condition.

 

Both roads can be busy, so be alert!!

Barberton to Kaapmuiden not an option now. That road is terrible, very busy, no shoulder plus they are busy with resurfacing the part between Low's Creek and the N4.

 

Barberton-Nelspruit lekker ride - road is good with decent shoulder all the way. Also busy, but not scary busy.

 

Barberton-Bulembu I struggle to climb even by car....

 

If you take MTB, there are pleeeeenty lekker routes of various difficulties.

I grew up there... awesome riding... If you’re into nice climbs..

I can definitely recommend the Havelock Climb(Barberton to Bulembu), if you like climbing

thats a lot of altitude in about 7km, but totally worth it...

the ride to Badplaas up Nelshoogte pass is also worth it, with great scenery...

Whereabouts did you live there CM?

 

Barberton to Nelshoogte is very nice, but that 12km from the R44 turnoff to Badplaas to the foot of Nelshoogte quite hairy - no shoulder...
