Hi everyone,

I live in Panorama and I'm starting a new job in Maitland. I was thinking of cycling to work via Uys Krige, Giel Basson, Milton, Jakes Gerwell and Voortrekker roads. But to my knowledge these routes are not safe, especially Voortrekker. Is there a safer alternative route?

Thanks,

Jason

I've attached my route .... at the moment I'm working from home still but hopefully soon back at the office .... commuting again ... miss it terribly.

I have on occasion gone straight onto Berkley rd ...

I also mainly tried to avoid Voortrekker, but take it on occasion too.

Voortrekker might be busy and "vehicle" dangerous, but on the flip-side having many people around deters hijackers ....

Hi Eddie,

Thanks so much for the route info. I'll be working in Upper Camp rd Maitland, which is deep in Maitland and also close to the M5. I was thinking of going via Thornton and Pinelands, which will bring me to Ndabeni circle and is close to Upper Camp road. But this is quite a long detour.

Hi Hamstring,

So I'm assuming that you cycle via Voortrekker. Would you have to ride on the pavement/side walk when using Voortrekker? Are there few/many other cyclists on the road too?

You will get use to the distance in no time. ;)

Personally, safety (wide shoulder, clear road, lots of people, etc.) and scenery trumps distance any day.
