Im learning chaps, Im learning, but have this question..

Id like to buy MTB wheels secondhand and there are some sharp deals on the hub here, but all of them are disc hubs... and the rebuild budget doesnt extend to new levers/shifters etc right now..

So can disc hubs be used on the bike without rotors and a V brake set up be used for now?

Im assuming from pics here that most have normal rims that can be used with V Brakes...

Or am I just being really dof here....

Not being dof. Fact is, you can use disc hubs on a v-brake setup. Just be sure that the rim i s v-brake rim!

You cant use v-brakes on a rim that doesn't have a proper braking surface' date=' ie disk specific rims... Well i spose you could, but you shouldn't...[/quote']

Thanks 79.. this much I had figured, hence my question above to TrompsSmile

A V-Brake survace is wider than disc, and is always silver. Which would indicate a braking surface.

umm well another qstn.

I was spinning my wheels on the new mtn bike, listening for any odd noises eminating from the wheels. With some suprise I noticed that the disc does not spin in a perfect circle, but rather slightly oval.

Should this be something to worry about as these are brand new discs and wheels? (they have seen about 1km of tar and 500m of grass verge to date)Confused

i have exactly the same problem on my rear wheel could it be due to the heat that the rotor is subjected to but my bike is a bit older only about 1000km so is this normal?????? i have xt rotors by the way
