Slightly off topic but maybe also other peoples bugbears as well. I can only save the course as a GPX which when downloaded to my Garmin the Garmin 520 doesn't pick it up. Am I doing something wrong and is there a way to save it as a FIT file? Or an easy way to convert it to a FIT file.....

Why not create the route in GC and sync to the 520?

The Strava app will show the heat map, but it defaults onto defined 'roads' to plot a course - i.e. it will not follow a line on the heat map. You switch to Manual mode and then it allows you to plot points freehand, which are then joined by straight lines.

It sounds like a lot of people aren't using manual mode when they're plotting off road routes.

Manual mode works for me, as well as known tracks (off-road). However, it often shows “off route” when riding on the heat map line which also happens to be as the same line as I plotted manually.

Below is an example of the manual mode not working - it plots it where it wants to, not where I want it.

Try exporting the TCX format from Strava, otherwise import the GPX file into Garmin Connect and sync to your 530.

Did you copy it into the 'new files' folder? (i think that's what it is) i normally restart, and it picks it up as a new course, and i can access it via Navigation
