Posted this in another topic but got no joy...

I'm still toying with the idea of upgrading to a soft tail, but I'm also unfortunately in the lower price brakect of the market (wanting to spend around R13000). From a quick survey on-line the options are:

1. Commencal Meta 5.5.3 (R12335)

2. Commencal Meta 4.3   (R12335)

3. Rocky Mountain Element 10 (R11500)

4. Trek fuel EX 5 (R8000)

The Commencals seem to get decent write ups on overseas based web sites, any local reviews/comments?

I'm sure there are other models in the price range but I have not come across any on-line, any suggestions?

Super, not to be pedantic but a soft tail and a full sus bike are not the same thing. A soft tail has a fixed rear triangle but flexes and sometimes has a small damper.

Your choice is huge. You can get a great full sus bike for that price, Mongoose, GT, Silverback.

Happy shopping.

The importer of Commencals is on the hub and he organizes test rides in <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Gauteng.  Also look at Mongoose Canaan, GT and Merida.  <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Thanks for all the info and thanks DB for clearing up the Soft Tail/ Full Sus issue, I had no idea.

There are certainly more bikes to check out...
