What are the typical maintenance items you need to take care of to ensure your parts are kept in good condition?
What do you need to do after every ride, every month, six months, year etc?

Dry rides .... nice long maintenance intervals.

Extreme dust .... wipe down and relube after each long ride ... you will HEAR it ....

Muddy rides .... rinse off with low pressure water ... clean and lube as needed.

Check the bearings regularly .... check if it is still running smooth

Check chain wear

Shimano - check, clean and lube derailure clutch

Air shock ... keep clean, and keep an eye on the air pressure.

Actually it is easy to check all these items during a 20 minute wash and lube.  Attend to the items that you spot during the routine inspection.

After Saturdays ride ....

Rinsed it down.

Onto the workshop stand, washed it and then:

- remove rear wheel, check bearings, check cassette and freebody

- remove front wheel, check bearings

- top up the sludge, think it was last done 6 months ago

- check, then clean brake discs with alchol

.... back to the bike

- should have checked the brake pads

- visually check cables and the frame

- pull the chain out the way and check the BB bearings, then the derailure jockey wheels

- re.fit the wheels

- check the gears

- lube the chain

- feel the brake lever action on the stand

- quickly check the gear indexing ...

- test ride ....

Sounds like a lot .... but it really goes quickly

Few years ago I prepped this checklist  ..... would probably do it differently now.

Once you get into a routine you dont use this any more, and just check check most of these items routinely during proper wash and lube.

Would be interesting to hear the input from DnD and others with a lot more experience than myself.
