I’ve spent hundreds of hours solo traversing all sorts of combinations of Baakens Valley trails and have only twice seen dodgy looking peeps, in the lower reaches towards Bridge Street. Having for decades run various weekday businesses and club nights and also socialising in Central and having defended male and female friends (and myself and GF once from home invaders) I do have defence-minded observation. I think BV is pretty safe while applying one's usual everyday caution. I’ve had more threats riding the high gradient out of the valley past the golf estate in 9th Ave from the Larry David look-alike NMU academic and his huskies who have twice put their gnashers around my thighs and calves as I benignly stopped. “Ag, vey yas like to scare peepol” he once said. Compared to cycling in the valley, I’ve mostdef seen FAR more dodgy characters while working at multinational corporate clients. 🙈😁 Edited December 25, 2021 by justinafrika WaynejG and Catatonic_Joe
Catatonic_Joe Posted December 26, 2021 Share Slipperfieldsv trails are closed permanently for MTB, only trail runners allowed. So 3 Rivers Trails seems to be the only trail park in the area. justinafrika

I'm quite sad that there aren't any trails in the Rockwell area, been using that road (Rockwell Drive I think?) and it looks so beautiful out there... I'm very tempted to take my bike there and see where some of those dirt roads go.
bullet77 Posted December 26, 2021 Share If you go from Rocklands, go to Elandsrivier road or Offcamber , you can safely ride solo on the elands for 100km+ if you want. All gravel with lots of climbing. Catatonic_Joe

You can ride about 15km quite safely alone. I have been riding in Baakens Valley for about 20years without a single incident. Happy to show you around if it’s after work hours Catatonic_Joe

Catatonic_Joe Posted December 27, 2021 Share Went to 3 Rivers Trails today with my son, did the short 15km trail with him. Fantastic place. The views and the trails are awesome. Planning to go back in the week to do a longer ride. Edited December 27, 2021 by Catatonic_Joe Chainsawlst, justinafrika and WaynejG
