Hi everyone

Would like to know of any safe (from reckless cars or muggings) cycling routes from the Southern Suburbs into Cape Town CBD. Will be in the afternoon around 4pm.

Thanks!

The biggest issue at 4pm would likely be traffic/taxis etc.

But hopefully into CBD will be against the worst of it

The most common route is likely to be Lieseek Parkway - Lower Main Rd - CBD.

Thanks Thomo!

Yes that's what I was thinking. Just wasn't sure if there was anything funny about that route I needed to be aware of (i.e. hotspot).

Just the Circle of Death where Albert, Voortrekker, Durham and Salt River roads meet up for cars, and the bridge over the railway line past River Club for skollies. The rest is mostly uneventful.

I didn't know there had been incidents on the bridge at river club. Are those recent?

Nothing that I've heard of for a while, it's just an uphill stretch near a railway yard with nobody around so worth keeping your eyes open, especially when coming from Obs side.

Last week Sunday I tagged along with some riders from Rondebosch Common cause I didn't want to to Lower Main into Town on my own. We bomb through Lower main and turn right to go past the Old Castle Brewery and then to turn left onto the N1 and I know that's a hotspot....

Don't I see some cyclist parked off just above those shacks checking his phone obviously waiting for his friends. I want to live in his world!
