Q Rings

2 X 2

Recommended Posts

Cant believe the double up guys dont make use of them....

I am so exited to do all the races again with the q-rings.

We are for sure going to take 20-30min off our times on a avg 100km race.

Glad for you Backlash... it's rewarding to have a new component make such a big difference.

Even on the flats and downhills.... such a smooth stroke...

If they are that good' date=' why don't all the pros use them?

[/quote']

That is a good question.

For if it makes such a huge difference for my stoker and myself... why wont it help anybody else?

And they truly made a huge difference Sean... I am just telling it as it is... facts.

After I've installed the rings - we just dont battle anymore like we used to.. we avg more uphills than before.. 4-5km/h more..

Your captain can throw the chain on your 30 chain ring and shift to the 34 of you 11-34 cluster and you can spin like they say you should on a tandem, but the bunch is going to leave you behind and pretty soon you'll be so tired that you'll drop the pace a bit.

With q-rings fitted it will be more like climbing on a single bike.

I don't care what the tests reveal, I've experieced this for myself and I don't have such an imagination as Mampara implies.

I don't have q-rings on my single bike, but won't ride be a stoker on a tandem without.

I've recently got a tandem for my wife and I and had the q-rings for it before I got the bike.

How bad is klapperkop?  Has anyone climbed Golf Club Terrace past the Checkers Hyper?  It's not that long, but it's a horror!  I've climbed Kruger's dorp hill and that is mild.

I think the climb on the back of Krugersdorp (past Sterkfontein malhuis) is better training then Hillsnax.

There is a nice short climb from that main road in Krugersdorp up to the News Cafe in Voortrekker road.

The majority of tandem riders seem to agree that Q-rings are it. So I think my mind has finally been made up. Q-Rings it is.

Just sold my tandem. But it seems that there's consensus on the Q-rings making a noticeable difference on the tandem over a single bike. Johan, assume there's a scientific reason for this?

If they make a difference to a Tandem, surely they should also make one on a normal bike ?

That study being done down at Rhodes should be interesting to read once published.

My "un"-educated guess would be the fact that you will never find two people with exactly the same pedaling style, so the Q-rings might contribute to evening out the combined pedaling stroke.

Any chance the clever guys at Rhodes would be able to do some testing with two tandems too.

One with Q-rings & one without?

I assume you are asking Johan the Knight of the Yellow Saddle of the order of the self righteous and the ace of shooting down theories by others. He does not like many things...... he did not like Gotti H being a factory certified frame builder, he despises spoke tensiometers, he loves steel frames and he has shot down Biospace chainrings (and I think Q rings) many times. I just for one hope he is not the mentor of the thesis the young guy at Rhodes are busy working on. The poor fellow will get nowhere.

And yes........... I am safely ensconced in my bombshelter with enough supplies and protection for a nuclear attack and the ensuing fallout!!!!!!!!

This is so true and I am sure that 90% of the double up brigade will testify that since they put Q on they have never needed granny again. Matter a fact, many will also testify that they have climbed hills in the big blade as well.

We who have ridden with Q have no need for studies or any theories - ons ken!!!!!

Youtalking about those guys who ase their career on some previous rider right down to copying the riding style, lifestyle and cheating style of previous rider...?

You talking about those guys who find it hard to embrace anythong they have not tried before...

Oh well, Hincapie is using some really weird looking oval rin and there are quite a few riders on the Q-ring in this years tour.

Cant explain it but will try...

When my stoker and I started climbing... it was as if hhis powerstroke came in just after mine.

It felt as if I hit a brick wall and then he came and chipped on the wall himself.

Somehow the Q rings smoothed/broadend that powerstroke.

Now when I come in with my Powerstroke it's as if his stroke more evenly comes together with mine and then we have like a 10 pound hammer effect against the climb.

Our stroke now feels elastic... compensating for the uneven power strokes...

anyway... must feel it to believe it...
