I spent the last 3 days cleaning my road tyres to have them fresh and light for tour du cap. I tried degreaser, hairdrier, fabric, rubbing with another tyre, sand paper....

Seems what works best (besides your thumbs, but you don't have enough skin to do 1/10th of one tyre) is rubbing your inner tyre against some kind o carpet, I have plenty of chutes from my bedrooms carpet in the garage, and it works great. Still takes a while but I'll know for next time. I reckon about 20 mins per tyre should do the job ;)

Will give that a shot next time, took me 2-3 hours last time ... :(

I have done many tires cleaning the old slime stuck to the inside of the tire. It takes 2 to 3 hours to clean a tire. Pick the old sealant off by hand, do a bit at a time if you are not patient. I would like to have a "hack" that works, found nothing so far. I have tried a high pressure hose, didn't do much. Leaving it to dry over a couple of days seems to help with some types of sealants.

Do you think it's worth the effort? Will you do that again?

mmh for me to go through this again would take another big race with a lot of gradient and a set of tyre still in good enough condition. Otherwise I'd just leave it and top up (what I've always done until now)

On MTB tyres they wear long before the sealant dries anyways, on my road bike I have GP5000 that are already some of the heaviest high-end tyres so if I can save 10/15 gr by cleaning them up properly why not, but only if I have time. Considering I'm tapering for TdC I did it on time I usually spend on the bike ;) That's part of my preparation ;)
