If your foam rings are dirty, replace your wiper seals. Foam rings there to catch the crap that gets in when the seals can't. When they're dirty, the seals are done. Cleaning them with alcohol will swell them and render them useless.

That would have been nice to know before I soaked mine this morning. They seem to be a bit larger than before. Maybe it's also the effect of a wet vs dry sponge? I think they were better off being replaced anyway.

I blame the official guide - they use suspension cleaner - is it something other than alcohol?
