My personal opinion. I had run in NB 1080's forever, until one day I decided to try Asics and I have had endless issues. NB is probably the best bang for buck ever. If one goes for a older model, one could even get a pair at under R1000. I normally get between 800 to 1000km in NB's

Shoes are like opinions, some people agree, some people definitely do not and what is right for me is not right for you.

Changing shoe brands can be an expensive exercise, but it can also be hugely fruitful.

I changed brands a little over a year ago after having used the same brand for 6 odd years. Funnily enough I fell in love with 2 pairs of ASICS I bought. One pair of brooks were OK, Saucony were ok and New Balance were a total dud. Got a pair of Merrells on special and I love them. Had a pair of Mizuno which got the job done on the road and got super high mileage out of them.

I run a fair bit and do some long runs. Not sure what some people see as long but some of my runs are long in anyones book but I still treat buying shoes as though I know absolutely nothing as even model upgrades can fit differently, not work or cause issues.

Something as simple as laces.

Try on the shoes, walk/jog on the treadmill and usually if they feel good there, they feel good on the road/trail.

There is unfortunately no 'right' answer. It's a complete lottery

New Balance 880 / Brooks Ghost / Brooks always rock my world. I usually buy the 3x pairs at once, after which it's great for rotation whilst they provide endless love and joy.

Hey everyone, been a while. I have the 2 oceans half coming up so it might be a bit too late but thought I'd ask anyway. I have always been running in asics stability shoes. Currently in an end of life GT 2000 (7), i think the latest one is the 10. My question is what alternative shoe brands should i be considering. Always a tricky thing, as i only get the hang of a shoe after a few kms, so no try before you buy.

Any recommendations? or should i stick with what works ie gt2000 10?
