Sisonke Cyclers: Bringing culture and community together through cycling

A friend and I started a little cycling community, Sisonke Cyclers, in the Helderberg and surrounding area, to bring people together. Attached news article with more info. We're organising a community ride every 2nd month. Pics attached from March's coffee ride to Khayelitsha. It was a blast!

Join us this Saturday, 7th May, for a fun ride in Kleinvlei! Caring Souls have a fun sports day in Kleinvlei to raise awareness about the support they provide to young people through sport, including cycling, running, and even bodybuilding 💪🏾
We will ride from Waterstones BP (Somerset West) at 7:00, cycle to meet at Eersteriver KFC at 8:00 to cycle to Keerom Street, Kleinvlei, where the fun ride starts. The fun ride is at 9:00, which will be 10 x 3km loops around the area. Free to enter.

No better way to honour Youth Day than at Caring Souls' Sports Day in Kleinvlei, Eersteriver! With incredible support from The Sports Trust and the community! We had cyclists from The Sports Trust, Blue Sky Cycling Academy, The Answer Series Bonga Cycling Academy and more! The Eersteriver Soccer Club arranged a walk against Gender Based Violence, we did a fun ride, they had cross-country, and various games to get the kids involved.

Events like this show young people in the community that they can find purpose, belonging and fun in sport, rather than in gangs and drugs. What made this different, was that it was BY the community, IN the community, and the fun ride/walk/run made it accessible to anyone with feet or wheels. The energy was incredible!

Our Sisonke Cyclers community is growing! Relationships across teams and communities are being built. Little doors are opening. Join us! And connect with me if you have a community sporting event that you'd like to promote on our group.

I believe in the Youth of South Africa 🇿🇦

Excellent initiative!  And there’s no telling how many many will benefit.   Wish my kids and I were around for the ride, best wishes.

I'll post future events on this thread. Join us next time :)
