Bundu Ric Posted May 5, 2023 Share Hi all, Is there any bike rack available in South Africa that will allow access to the boot of my Prado by swivelling the bike rack away from the vehicle? Something similar to the below? Currently have a Buzzrack, but with the bikes removed and the Buzzrack tilted backwards I can not access the boot area due to the sideways door opening of the Prado. Thanks Johannes Basson
ajnkzn Posted May 5, 2023 Share These guys will definitely be able to manufacture one for you; They seem to have made a swivel fitment for one of their racks. https://bikenetwork.co.za/first-look-vertorack-6-bike-tow-bar-mounted-rack/ Edited May 5, 2023 by ajnkzn Bundu Ric

The rack as well is made to slot into a tow hitch receiver which makes so much more sense than onto the ball. I am sure a good fabricator could sort you out in a day or 2. FirstV8 Posted May 6, 2023 Share I would never use a home / small workshop made bike carrier . As good as the design and workmanship are the only R&D and testing you have is with your own bikes on it . Your guess is as good as mine .

The one I had as a laaitie was so solid that we adapted it later to use as a roof rack and is now doing duty in my garage as a storage loft. Over engineered, did many 1000km with the bikes on it, anywhere between 2 and 4 bikes at a time. It’s still sitting in my shed, I will repurpose the steel at some stage, but damn thing weighs about 15-20kg without bikes on it. I must agree although if built by " Non Bikers " they tend to be "under engineered " . I agree with Ouzy as i i built my three bike rack 30 odd years ago and all its needed was a respray . Its also carried bikes many kilometers on all types of terrain .
