FYI just got some more goods in from Temu. Amongst them a cycling shirts for R 188, and if you go on to sites like RSSC Sports they are trying to sell the same shirts i.e. identical designs for 40 USD +.

Simple and easy to bring in all sorts of things. The list of bits and pieces I now source from them grows all the time. I bring in a LOT of motorbike spares and add ons as well, which are customised to fit the exact bike i am riding and insanely cheap.

I really cant beat the price and value they operate as well as the simplicity of it all.

Maybe not available on Temu, but certainly on Aliexpress (and even some local shops). The Xoss X2 heart rate monitor solved all of my HRM-related issues which include:

2 Wahoo Tickr's broken within a year, didn't even bother with warranty the 2nd time

Sigma HRM broken within 2 years

Garmin strap made about 6 months, new Temu straps outlasted the unit itself

I think that most HRM's can't survive battery replacements for whatever reason, and as such the internal battery of the Xoss solves it - mines been going strong for 1.5 years.

I was keen to try the Xoss HRMs or an alternative with usb c charging but since using Temu I'm reluctant to use Ali since delivery can take 2+ months and have to deal with post office etc.

Looks like many local suppliers, and some of them are not really that much more expensive than aliexpress (and avoids SAPO, which has up to last year been great for me but seems to suck now).

AliExpress have moved away from the Post Office.
My 2 or 3 previous orders from AliE have been delivered vis a courier to my door.
The catch is that there's a fee to pay

Ahh that's good news thanks, do I just choose the AliExpress Selection Standard Free Shipping?

Is the fee similar to normal duties etc, nothing crazy?

The last time I bought from AliExpress was a helmet which was around R550 and the custom / delivery fees were R187.00

I think that if it had come via the post office they would have charged me VAT (R82.50) and a handing fee (R73.00) which would be approximately R156
A bit more but it got delivered to me and it was a much better and quicker experience than dealing with the PO.

Just a general question. I have an old Version 1 Garmin HR belt. Is there any accuracy difference between the old ones and the new ones.

Thanks, and what was delivery time like?

I think it was about 2 weeks
Looking at the Order on AliExpress now, the order was placed on the 13th and seems that it was closed on the 25th.

Have you tried the Forza straps? At around R400, mine is lasting much much much much better than the Polar straps it replaced (of course now I've jinxed it)

I have gone to Forza and will not go back

I recently bought a replacement garmin screen off Ali Express and received a whatsapp from iMile (their couriers i believe) asking for my ID number as it's required to clear customs. The message looks legit but at the same time, I generally don't click on links in Whatsapp, especially not ones asking for my ID number. Has anyone come across this in orders from AliExpress?

You should also get an email. AliExpress is usually a meili logistics link. See if there are any tracking numbers you can compare before you pay anything.

I will be thanks. Maybe I have too high standards, but I don’t care what the price point is, I expect a service to be provide at normal industry standard service levels.

International shipments tracking using AWB is standard practice across the industry, with actual information provided - like which airport your item is actually at during different legs of the journey.

Pre payment of customs duties and VAT is also standard practice, but normally this is based on a proper itemised customs invoice, which shows under which HS codes the items are being imported, what their customs value is, and what you are paying. Sending an email saying “your package cannot be delivered - here’s a link, pay Rxx.xx so your package can be released, and then later being sent an update saying your package is currently awaiting customs clearance (after you have already paid the duties), is not a normal level of service. Regardless of the price point.

So, what was the outcome? Did you get all the goods as ordered, and do they work/ fit?
