Hi,

I just bought a Thule XT2.  I was trying to install it in my towbar but it wasn't locking.

Here are my specifications
1. Tow Bar Ball: 2 inches
2. Tow bar neck (below the ball): 1 1/4 inch
3. Thule XT2 Locking mechanism hole 1 inch

The way i am seeing it, the tow bar neck is bigger than the locking mechanism. So it wont lock properly.    But I doubt that is the issue.  I haven't resolved this yet.

What am i doing wrong / missing?  There wasn't any instructions in the manual apart from the height of the ball to the neck should be 73mm.

The lock must be OPEN when fitting it over the towbar.  As obvious as that sounds, it often closes just a tad and you need three arms to hold the rack, open the lock and slip it over the towbar.

The "lock" is around the towball NECK.  If the rack is tilted to any side it wont lock !!  You quickly learn to wiggle the rack while pushing down on the lock.

The ball slips into the mechanism but after it has been inserted, when i push the Thule lever to lock, it doesn't lock it.

So is this what you are saying, i need the rack to be completely upright for it to lock?

Yes level with th ground

If it still doesn't want to then there's a little knob thats facing you give that a quarter turn in the anti clockwise direction and try again with the handle

Thanks Barry,

I saw this section but didn't really pay attention into it.  Will give you feedback when I've done this.

Maybe take the rack to Thule ask them to fit it. If in Gauteng try Joe  Rack & Road woodmead or Amos at Rack & Road Gift acres. That lever and small plastic parts are not available as Thule spair parts and if broken the rack is scrap

The tips above did not work.

Basically with the Thule EasyFold XT2 variation that I have, I need a 2" (50mm) tow ball with a 1" (25mm) shank and 73mm height so that I can lock the bike rack.

Unfortunately, its hard to find this 50mm x 25mm x 73mm tow ball.  So I am still looking for one.

I'm surprised that I am having a hard time finding this actual specification in the UAE.

its frustrating as the manual didnt specifcy the 50mm x 25mm requirement.  They only indicated 73mm height.

I found one in NZ
