Morning Hubbers,

My wife and I are heading to Plettenberg Bay and De Rust at end of December.
Need to get some insights on the trails/routes we can ride especially when we are at Plett, but suggestions when at De Rust also welcome. (Did check past threads, but nothing current unfortunately)

Have seen Harkerville Trails, Cairnbrogie and the MTO trails next to Cairnbrogie popping up when googling and checking Strava.
Any other trails which we should be on the lookout for? Also, any of the above that we should be weary of in terms of overly technical or not maintained.

Any input would be appreciated.

I think Kevin Evans owns an amazing bike shop somewhere there. Pop in and see them. You might even find something you need there. I was there a while back and they guys in the shop were super friendly and helpful.

Where did I see the recent article on the Prince Alfred pass and  'cheesecake in De Vlugt'?? i.e. the Karoo2Coast route but starting from Plett is doable.

If you're passing through George, do include the Hillbillies trails (amazing as well).

Then going to De Rust, check the Swartberg Gran Fondo route for gravel.

Theres'it! In physical media for once, the latest Bicycling has a short article on the Prince Alfred pass and the linkage to Plett.

Last year visited for the first time, my wife could ride most trails not over technical

Our experience December'23

Highly recommend MTO next to Cairnbrogie, no need to drive there, ride from town on the airport road, wide enough shoulder not get rear ended by a car. It seemed possible to link up to the harkerville trails from MTO not sure
There are plenty of route markings, trails are new and well kept. Still contemplating if we are going to buy season passes or pay as we go.

Cairnbrogie, something different if not keen for MTO, would rather do MTO if time is limited.

Sky Trails, next to old Nicks Village, not well kept but it is MTB after all, some sharp switch backs, wife bought some property there....

Alkantmooi also MTO, very nice more Jeep track riding, drop down into Keurbooms and spin back on the tar back home.

Will do some more exploring in December, like Lynsky mentioned, ask the locals at the Plettbike shop. they gave me a map of the trails around there...

29 December there is a Sabrina Love MTB challenge at Kurland that we are keen on doing.
