  1. Thanks @Titan Racing Bikes Read the article yesterday and specifically saw the paragraph addressing the issue. I ended up applying multiple layers of PPF, but I suspect some users might end up removing the plastic guard in totality to avoid further issues. New bike looks proper and glad these small growing pains are being sorted, especially through listening to customer feedback, not a lot of brands goes this route. Also quite stocked that the small frame now also takes 2 x water bottles. Might be an option when we upgrade for my wife in the future again. Congratulations on the launch!!
  2. Great trails. Lots of climbing and a fair amount of technical sections on the longer route, but fun overall. Go and give it a bash.
  3. Very glad you turned around. When my wife and I lived in Kempton, we used to frequently use the gravel roads to BRB and back, but now there are issues in that whole area East of Midstream. We now live in Midstream and I wont dare go out East of the last boom gate any longer. Some flare ups in Bapsfontein and PTA East areas as well over the weekend. Sad how limited we are becoming with riding some nice gravel roads this side.
  4. Correct yet. Cyclist passing through Midstream to Red Barn on Saturday for the Sani2c roadshow. He just passed over the low water bridge toward BRB side when the perp jumped out in front of him, he shouldered him and got away, perp started firing at him while he rode away. (The cyclist in question posted this on the Midstream owners group and sent a Whatsapp voice note)
  5. There was a post on the Finish Line Cycles Whatsapp group this morning, stating the a fellow rider passed away today. Not sure if pointing to the same incident, but seems to be so. No details unfortunately. Very sad if that is the case.
  6. If I recall correctly, there was a similar incident a year or two ago at Hazeldean trails as well, close to the River Section. Do not see any mention of this on their socials.
  7. @Transformer09 My wife has the same bike. Do yourself a favor and remove the plastic bottom bracket/downtube procter and put a layer of frame protection in that area. Dirt and small rocks tend to get between the frame and the protector and scratches the frame quite heavily. Her bike has some serious paint damage as a result.

    New MTB Tyres

I am also looking for some faster rolling tyres as my Ardent (front) and Ardent Race (rear) is overkill for my riding and seem quite heavy if I look at some other tire weights. Any thoughts on Specialized Fast Track and Renegade tyres? T5 or T7 for gravel riding and lighter trailer usage?
  9. Hi All I am in the market for some carbon wheels and my two options are South Industries XC rims or the cSixx XCM 9 series hoops. (For my Epic Evo) Whichever I choose will be built with my existing Hope Pro 4 hubs. Please help me to choose? I am leaning toward the South Industries rims as they have lifetime warranty and lifetime 50% crash replacement, and of course I like supporting local. (Any other options which I should consider?) Also any suggestions on some good wheelbuilders in Gauteng will be appreciated. I have used Nick the Wheelbuilder previously, but unfurtunately he moved to the Gardent route and I would prefere someone local who can have a quicker TAT on the rebuild.
  10. Saw it last week as well, seems to be the people who were removed from 'Glen Marikana' in Kempton Park.
  11. Unfortunately this was one of my close friends cycling groups that was hit on Saturday, he was luckily about 800m back and heard the shots being fired, managed to stop and turn around to seek help with some others. Basically as @edgarblount posted. They were a group of 8 riders, but were split up a bit, so 4 riders were up ahead on the road, these 4 were the ones which were abushed by 4 armed perps. It seems as if there was a solo spotter a bit earlier on the route, just hanging around and observing, most probably communicating to the 4 armed guys. When the first 4 riders came past, must have informed his buddies to strike. Basically pushed them from the bikes and fired around wildly into the bushes, very scary and thankfull no one got injured beyond the fall from the bikes. I did advise them to post their bikes in the stolen bikes section. Just glad no one was seriously hurt.
  12. @MTBRIDER1234 thanks for the input. Master links are brand new, so no issues there. My OCD is probably then the only thing which is driving me into a new chain direction as I am struggling to accept the fact that I now have to run with two master links due to my own stupidity.
  13. I messed up and cut a chain (XX1 Eagle) too short due to being a stupid and not leaving it at the lenght I had initially. Resorted to adding another quick link with a few chain links to get it to the correct lenght again. Will this work with two links in close proximity on the chain or should I rather buy a new chain and learn a very expensive lesson?
  14. Unfortunately the below happened at Riverfields MTB park in Kempton Park this morning. I ride here frequently, but will unfortunately think twice from now on. Only 'safe' option these days are to go to bike park, also a risk, but a bit less probably than the road or public areas like Riverfields.
  15. Just got word from a colleague that 2 cyclists were bike jaked on Midstream drive in Centurion this morning. Close to where the wood is being sold next to the road. Polo pulled up and 3 occupants jumped out and charged the two cyclist. Bakkie pulled up a short while later to load the bikes. Be carefull when riding around midstream, especially in smaller groups. Approximate location: https://goo.gl/maps/F1ehXzqZjB97JgYy9
  16. Big Red Barn in Irene will be your best bet. Kiddies trail about 4/5km long, great restaurant with outside seating available as well as large open grassy areas where you can do your own picnic.
  17. Howzit Hubbers, Sitting with a bit of a dilemma. It's time to upgrade my wifes MTB to something newer and lighter. Her current bike is a 2014 Aluminium Scott Spark 740 with 120mm travel front and rear. So looking of course to upgrade to full carbon as the bike weight does play a role here. (She cant lose those extra kg's fat like me) Need some suggestions on travel to choose (120mm vs 100mm) and some bike options. Not opposed to going 2nd hand. (A nice small frame merida in the classifieds look appealing) Rider details: Height - 160cm Weight - 54kg Budget is around R50k to R75k, can stretch a bit if something good comes up. Lastly to mention, we ride a vairety of trails, but staying in Gauteng we will of course not be tackling crazy techy terrain. Normally ride trails such as Torako, Buffelsdrift, Hennops and will be doing Sani2C next year, also like doing a bit of gravel rides for the distance. Not racing at the sharp end of anything, just need a nice capable bike for the type of riding we mostly do. Will appreciate the input!
  18. Would love to know if the Edge 540/840 is also on the horizon.
  19. Thank you. Got a very decent second hand deal hopefully pending!
  20. I am looking for a 120mm Rockshox Sid select/select+/Ultimate fork (35mm stanchions) and manual lock out. Any ideas or leads where I might get one? Open to 2nd hand as well.
  21. Reviving this thread a bit. Help me save my hub please. Stripped brake rotor bolts. Tried all possible avenues I could Google, even cut a slit into the bolt head and tried using a flat. Bolts are made of cheese it seemed and installer of these bolts used all the loctite available. Ended up having to grind it flat so that the rotor could come off. Now the question, how to remove the rest of the bolt?
  22. Does anyone have a sram shifter clamp for a Sram Eagle shifter? Willing to pay of course.
  23. https://youtu.be/SzUqf_OF8j8 Nice vid comparing a bunch of the most popular shoes. Ride concept helion seems like a solid choice.
  24. Don't forget about Trailwolf cycles in Taroko (Modderfontein) self.
