Goodluck... I hope you are able to make a plan.

I had the exact issue. Originally thought it was the battery but same issue happening when swapping batteries until it just RD died completely.

I was told to replace with the exact model being discontinued...Dura ace has served me well since. 😊

Hi , does anyone know someone who service the old sram red etap 11sp rear derailleur, my one stooped to work, was draining the batteries after one ride and now stooped to work completely!

These derailleur's are tricky to work on ( I would think they are designed not to be repaired) .  I have come across 3 already that have failed. They can be opened with difficulty, but not much to see its all small circuitry and often tricky to spot any faults on the small circuit boards. It is most likely an internal fault with servo motor or short causing the battery to drain. All of the ones I have come across basically just stop working. The easiest fix is the battery pins are faulty/worn but this does'nt seem to be the probelm in your case as battery is in fact draining thus indicating connection seems okay.

Does the green light come on when battery is installed, and flash when you try shift or is it permenatly on ?

The only new ones available are the https://www.sram.com/en/sram/models/rd-red-e-a2 versions, not sure about stock in SA. As mentioned previously the one you have was discontinued some time ago.

Have a look at the connection pins.

Take the battery off and you'll see 2 gold pins that are spring loaded. It's pretty common for the spring to break off inside them. Best is try a good electronic cellphone shop
