Did a few of the CC's one year Yolandi Swanepoel got whacked by a Rooibok on the Saturday and the Sunday a lady was kicked of her bike by a volstruis nearly took me out as well . The lady had a bad collor bone injury

I broke a hand when a woman ahead of me stopped at a 15cm drop-off in the footpath along the river.

I think with all the rain, the road will be a challenge in terms of roughness and corrugations. The bad part will only start just after Venterskroon just before the first climb. Hopefully it will not be that cold, but looking forward to the event.

climb over Eben's hill was lekker but eventually it became a wannabe MTB event. It was held in September and October and it was so hot, dusty and congested that its only saving grace was that every other event that season could only be better.

It was the original 100km gravel race and something very different until they messed with the formula. I hope it reverts to something that can be done on a gravel bike, in which case I look forward to giving it a go again. I loved the first one, but maybe that was only me.

Oh, it also had a halfway stop where yo

After Venterskroon it is only the Groot Kloof climb that is the stoney/mountainous corser gravel. At the top we turn along the river, away from the mountains, away from the crater. In the past we returned towards Parys on the Free State side, back into the corser gravel. Beside the 20km tar road that follows, there is a 88km loop along the banks of the river with very smooth gravel (flatland). These roads are also very rural with no corrugations to speak of). We go past Skandenawiedrift towards Kromdraai Drift where we will cross over to the Free State side and return all along the river with similar gravel. I predict an average speed of 37-38km/hour.... for the racers.  The rain damage is a little less of a problem than some corrugations on that 10km stretch past Venterskroon that riders will do twice to return. But the road is wide and there is always a smoother part  :)
