Hi everyone,

I'm exploring health monitoring devices, particularly interested in tracking sleep, HRV, BTBI, oxygen levels, and more. I've been considering the Oura Ring as an alternative to WHOOP (a bit too pricey for my taste).

Currently, I'm using the Garmin Tactical X2, but I've noticed it doesn’t quite pick up on early signs of illness or flu symptoms. My old Polar Vantage V actually saved my life during Covid by detecting BTBI variations and oxygen drops early, allowing me to start treatment ahead of time.

I'm looking for recommendations:

  • How well does the Oura Ring perform in detecting early illness?

  • Are there other affordable health monitoring options that excel at sleep and HRV analysis?

  • Any tips for interpreting sleep stats on a budget?

Would love to hear your experiences!

...what about the Ultrahuman?

@guidodg Wow, Thx the Ultrahuman ring have even more features than the Oura.
Love the Caffeine Window Detection 😁
This could be the ring that controls middle earth.💪 With No monthly subscription.
Only downside it needs to be recharged every 5days, but for sleep monitoring that's ok with me.
Anybody else that is using a Ultrahuman ring? 👀

And check out DC Rainmaker’s page I’m sure there will be very in depth reviews there.

He has tested a couple of new rings.  Also a few with no subscription.

Recharge times are also coming down.  Leave the ring on the charger when you shower.

Seems this technology is the next big thing with a lot of development going on now.

I had Oura Ring 2 and worked well, but when they introduced the 3, they would not ship it to South Africa. Eventually the 2’s battery died after 4 years and that was the end of my relationship with Oura. If you want a scientific comparison of how accurate it is, I suggest you check out Rob from the Quantified Scientist. DC is great for reviews but Rob does the measurements.
