Medium hardtail frame wanted

Howzit all! so haven't cycled in a while due to injury, but I'm looking for a frame. Not much out there at the moment, but looking for a steel XC/downcountry type frame to build on, i have everything else ready to be fitted, just no frame. Rapide are too aggressive for what i need so thinking more niner/ momsen STR29/STF/ Kona/ salsa etc. I'm running a carbon rigid fork, but will switch out with a 120mm fork at some stage. Any help would be appreciated. 

I did see this awesome Niner SIR9 on the hub, but after some research i think the large geos will be too big for me (I'm 178)😪

I am also 1.78 and have been riding M frames for ages . Recently I test rode a L framed bike that I worked on and was very comfortable on it . Just saying.  Maybe do the same before you miss out on that Niner

Why do you say Rapide is aggressive?  Sure, give it a lekker fork and it will be aggressive. 

I've done thousands of km's on my Rapide, 100mm of travel and mostly gravel roads.  And it is just as capable in the mountains.

 

Best bike I've ever owned.

Ive had one, in a more aggressive setup, but for a rigid build for now i didnt enjoy it. (Had it setup as a rigid in the beginning) the geos didnt work comfortable for me unfortunately. In a full trail bike trim it was epic, i agree. If i build another pure trail bike ill definitely get another one.
