Hi Hubbers, I have Friday afternoon free in Tyger Valley and wonder where the best place / trails are to ride my MTB. Probs about a 2 - 2 1/2 hours of a nice loop. Don't mind some hills, just no major "cols"!

Cheers,

Bloemendal would be closest and there are lots of options. Buy a day permit and you can go across the road to Hillcrest but can't ride the members-only corridors.l, including the one from from Protea Hotel near Majik Forest back to Bloemendal.

There is a primary school MTB inter schools event taking place at Bloemendal on Friday afternoon, which will mean some of the easier trails will be off limits.

Tyger Valley is very close to the Tygerberg MTB Trails network.

Take your pick from

  • Anna Beulah Farm
  • Bloemendal Wine Estate
  • Contermanskloof Farm
  • D'Aria Winery
  • Hillcrest Wine Estate
  • Hoogekraal Farm
  • Meerendal Wine Estate
  • Nitida Wine Farm

As mentioned above, Majik Forest is also an option.

Are the corridors between the trails still for annual (the u is silent btw.) members only? I recall having a debate with a committee member a few years ago about this. My view was that a day member is also a member and subject to the same t's and c's as annual members, but their view as that land owners did not want day members on the corridors. I'd actually make the trip if the corridors are open to day members as well.

The only corridor that is open to day permit holders is the Anna Beulah one between Conties and Hoogekraal, and you're meant to buy a day permit both sides, which makes it an expensive ride.

Yes

For the OP to ride these trails he would have to buy the 6.month membership.

I walk Majik Forest.  Badly rutted, and a few nasty rocky spots.  It is not ideal for new riders at the moment, especially not solo riders.

Tygerberg trails are much safer.

Off course I have no clue as to the OP's skill level .... up to him to check out the routes with due care

Its a hard no then for me. I quite like the Winelands model. Combining that with STF gives a day permit rider so much to ride from both Somerset West and Banhoek sides.

Two sides to this coin ....

Day permit cost for one ride per month just about covers the annual membership.  Really a nobrainer for most riders.

BUT .... if I wanted to show the Potch train our trails there is no legal way to do this for the one weekend they are down here .... as much as I support the club and its committee .... THIS is the one thing that is long overdue to be resolved.

But it's still not possible to go from Dornier to its neighbour Mont Marie or vice versa on the same day permit, if I'm not mistaken?
