So I got a new bike, Commencal Meta 5.5 and it really is an awesome bike. I have however noticed that there is a light tapping noise when I apply front brakes (Formula ORO K18's). The noise comes from the lever itself and not from the cliper/rotor. Ther is also no shudder in the lever itself, or any leaks (that I've spotted) and the baking action seems fine. I've had a look around on the net but can't seem to find a solution. Any one had a similar problem and how did you resolve it?

The next question is what is the norm with regards to people setting up shocks, do you go out and buy a shock pump or do you pester your LBS till you get the settings right? If it's the former, what's the going rate for a shock pump?

I ave no idea about the brakes. Mine makes a little grrrrr sound when I brake but it's from opening in the rotor.

I don't know about Commencal but normally you get a pump with the bike. Just go anb buy one but get a good one. You'll play around with the setting for a while and need to check it every now and again.

shock pump will set you back R250 - R300. as mentioned you'll need to play aqround with the settings for the first few rides. after that you'll need to pump to replenish air every few rides. best to have your own!!

Can you ascertain if the noise taps once per wheel revolution?

Are you sure it is a noise and not just a pulse in the lever?

I'd check the disk for lateral true. I suspect not a wobble but a disk with a thick spot, even 0,1mm could make the lever pulse. However, I've never had a noise associated with that pulse.

Do you have access to a micrometer? If not and you're a tool nut, you can get a nice Chinese one at Makro for about R250. Or take the disk off and take it to a machine shop where someone with a micrometer can measure it for you.

A vatiation on the theme would see you temporarily fit another wheel.

Hey JB

I'll have to check if it is once per rev. but it is not noticibale at slow speeds. I don't recall a lever pulse, but I'll check that tomorrow.

WRT getting a mircormeter, well that's not going to happen just yet smiley2.gif I have a shock pump that I need to purchase and many other 'simple tools' smiley4.gif

Is there any particular brand of shock pump you hubbers could recommend.

JLDAM you have mail.
