Hi Everyone,

Has anyone brought in a bike from Australia, either through shipping or asking a friend to bring it with on the flight?

What has the costs been around that and the process. I'm thinking of buying a bike new and bringing it in.

Kind Regards,
Jasper Nel

I brought back 2 bicycles from Aussie on flights. One in a bike bag and one in the box it was delivered in. Nobody even looked at me at ORT, walked straight thru. Maybe I got lucky, twice.

Thanks, can you remember what the extra baggage cost?

It’s more airline related than destination related. Qatar and emirates are quite good with bikes.

If you have a good, compact bike bag, they are very accommodating. Keep it under weight limits and if you’re unsure, just call them.

They are free if you swap it with a checked bag, otherwise it depends. From Austria (not Australia) it was 3000 rand each way if it’s not a swap with a check in bag and 23kg was weight limit.

Didn't pay anything extra but I had business class baggage allowance. Travelled via Doha and the second time via Dubai.
