  1. Somewhere deep into the Eastern Cape
  2. That’s cool, keep us posted on how you find it.
  3. How I see it, you do business in 1 of two ways on the hub. You do it by whoever contacts you first and they get preference or you sell it to whoever coughs up the money first. It does seem like the seller hasn't decided yet how he wants to do business, communicates like he does business by handshakes and trust but as soon as he sees the money all of that falls by the wayside. Commit to how you want to do business and communicate that to the buyers. Business is business, maar wees lekker
  4. Dude well done and thank you. That is very cool. What would be interesting to see is if one could compare between 2 people. For example 2 people within the same batch then one could see the following. But yes I can just do it in an excel sheet so not nitpicking, very cool website you have made
  5. There are definitely exception to the rule. There was a Stephan in the A bunch, I cant remember his tally of Tours but I can remember thinking someone with as many tours as he does shouldn't be here. He would just switch lines without a second thought and force gaps in the bunch, he almost took me out a few times as I tried to get past his line of destruction.
  6. This year was my 10th one and couldn't help to think back on the first one. I was probably 15 years old at the time. Flew down from Hartbeespoort with friends and slept over in Strand. I can just remember waking up to the south easter HOWLING. We put our bikes on the trailer, drove out the parking garage and as we drove out my seat hit a pipe on the roof and the front of the seat bent backwards. Luckily we could sort a seat out before the start. To this day I do not know how they didn't cancel that one, no one could start standing up, we crawled over the start line. It was easier cycling up chappies than it was cycling down in the wind, I had to stand and pedal against the wind. We obviously had to frame the Argus newspaper clippings. Did it on a yellow steel Hanson that was way to big for me. I don't know at what number I'll stop being excited for this race but as you can see at number 10 I still had a blast.
  7. I started in 1A as well, my fitness definitely didn't deserve the start. So yes I was a passenger today up until 38km when I got a flat so changed my tube and did a coffee ride for the rest. Fun day out though. Amazing support along the route, cool to see some of the kids really proud to be on the side supporting.
  8. That is very shocking, that road is insanely busy at 7:30 in the morning. Any details of how it played out? I think a few of us use that road often
  9. Started Sunday with my confidence level higher than my fitness in group B. Popped so bad I decided to call it a day at 30km. December/January I didn't put in enough time to be able to hold on. But NOW I am highly questioning my lack of focus over Des cause its my best start yet in 1A for the CTCT thanks to the Durbie Dash of last year but the legs aren't there. So any miracle advice like "boost your avg FTP by 50 watts in a week" would be highly appreciated.
  10. If you get the wide range 11 Speed cassette then you don't have to change the freehub. The 11-34 https://velo.outsideonline.com/2018/03/shimano-ultegra-hg-800-11-34t-cassette-review/
  11. Thanks, can you remember what the extra baggage cost?
  12. I started to track my KJs that I burn and consume in a day to shake some unnecessary weight and to build more muscle. Buuut what I was shocked by was seeing how much someone actually burns on long rides and hard efforts, so to replace that amount of energy in eating healthy food becomes an effort just because of the shear volume. That is where the protein shake comes in handy, its quick, easy to take in after a hard effort and its quick for your body to take that energy and put it back into your muscles. Convenience truly is king
  13. Hi Everyone, Has anyone brought in a bike from Australia, either through shipping or asking a friend to bring it with on the flight? What has the costs been around that and the process. I'm thinking of buying a bike new and bringing it in. Kind Regards, Jasper Nel
  14. I can confirm, you cant see anything in full sun. I have the epix pro with the Amoled screen. The colors do look cool on the Amoled screen but if you are planning on exercising in full sun then I would recommend the MIP screen. On my Garmin EDGE or old Forunner with the MIP screen I never thought "Man I need a clearer screen" For example I did some hill sets today over lunch, I specifically looked for a hill with trees and shade so that I don't over cook and that I can actually see on my screen.
  15. Ah one of my guilty pleasures in life is putting on a new tyre, aligning the maxxis logo with the valve and getting it to seat first try with a normal floor pump, hearing the pops at after about 2.3 Bar. Buuuuut that is when the rim tape is perfect, the art of taping the rim I haven't perfected yet.
  16. Here we thought we were part of the cool kids in school doing "mountain biking" over the weekend even though it was just cycling the gravel roads to Van Gaalens and back. This was before the farm had trails and we just did the walking paths.
  17. Post Pics as soon as you have it.
  18. GRX very crisp shifting and definitely the safer bet
  19. I am more legs than upper body and reach has always been an issue for me. The other day I used a epic 8 evo for a bit, felt planted and comfortable from the first few pedal strokes. Wen I went back to my 2014 Scott scale. I immediately realized how much more upright the newer bikes are and I should invest in a shorter stem for my Scale, reach has such a big impact on how comfortable a bike is. My XL road bike is already on the shortest stem with a straight seat post.
  20. You are right the Merida does seem to be slacker. You will have to check the reach though, but that can be sorted by a shorter stem. The giant can however fit larger tyres so you can really take it on some proper fire roads.
  21. I believe I read somewhere he used a 36T with the 9-45 cassette Edit here is his setup.
  22. As in pre orders for the Anthem X?
  23. New bike looks really cool. Now the next question becomes, get the previous entry version with carbon wheels but with 100mm travel or get the new version with 120mm travel but with alloy wheels.
  24. Now that is the question...hopefully as soon as the bonus comes in and by then the excitement would have worn off so I trust I would make a more unemotional decision. Might be hopeful but I'm hoping the current Giant Anthems will go on an insane sale by then...
