Hands.

 

A certain ,careful middle age lady rider is desperately looking for a
bike mechanic who can exorcise the ghost shifting from her bike's
gears.

Almost weekly visits to practicioners of the dark art of wrenching
have not had the desired effect. The last three visits have resulted
in the cranks coming loose during races and a tyre that would not hold
air.

The ghost shifting has not been solved.

Any useful suggestions would be appreciated

Does it happen to be a red and white Epic S-works?

OK so if it happens to be an Epic then I had problems on mine that the outer that goes under the BB was slightly to short and it caused some ghost shifting. Does that help?

Presumably all the cables have been replaced?

5 different LBS , cluster , chainrings and 4 sets of new cables at the last count.

Check that outer length under the BB, Took a while to find my problem with that. When the suspension moves to a certain point the cable actually pulls from the stops. Cause of the brain it's not possible to check unless the bike is ridden.

Why not contact Sean/Adrian at LePeleton (011 627 5080) and get it sorted. Sounds like cable routing or dropout alignment. You can't run that RD cable tightly under the BB - it needs a fair bit of slack. Also the RD cable and Brake hose run in such a way that they cross under the BB. cycleq2008-07-30 00:44:13

from the body of the frame to where the B.B. sits.

The ghost shifting problem becomes amplified when Sram is the gruppo of choice because of the 1:1 ratio :-)

Cranks coming loose could be numerous factors, I will use the Race Face Deus as an example, they use a crank bolt which is an 8 mm. and then the 10mm. which is the extractor bolt. These are lightweight and when taken on and off regularly, sadly lose their bite. We normally replace these by using copper slip on the 8 going into the crank shaft and blue loctite on the one going into the crank arm itself, a torque wrench is crucial here.

Pretty much the issue which I had and described, interesting that it is amplified with SRAM since that is what I have on my Epic
