Stellenbosch MTB

Tromps

Recommended Posts

I entered the Stellenbosch MTB ride this comming weekend. I received my entry confirmation today.

Surprize - I am jumping away in the LAST freaking group.

Why this is frustrating for me : I spoke to the organisers and they were not able to explain to me how the seeding was done other than PPA members and non members. I find this highly frustrating seeing that there will be about 1000 riders before my group on the mud. Do you dear reader have any flippen idea what the ground looks like after 2000 wheels passed over the same track???

No, not to be funny or unfair, I don't believe that I am a beginner rider or a novice. I have worked extremely hard the last 6 months of my life to get myself into pretty descent shape. I can boast extremely nice rides and very long long ones at that.

What is all my bitching and moaning comming to. When I entered the event, I was informed that I was one of the first 200 entries received. Why then am I listed so far behind? Surely a system of first come first serve should be entertained???

Am I being completely stupid here or does my idea carry a tea spoon of water???Ouch

Tromps, relax. We all had to start in the back groups before we became good enough to be seeded in the front. Wink

Seriously though, this is the 2008 SA Marathon Champs and Round 4 of

the Mazda MTN National Series, which carries it's own merit-based

seeding sytem. Also, just because you enter early doesn't mean you get

to start near the front. This is why there are seeding systems.

My advice: Hang your helmet over your number, shuffle inconspicuously

into any start group you want and just before the gun goes, pop your

helmet on and go for that podium place result!

Bloody Karoo too Coast works like that. What a waste of time if it was like this in that many races.

Karoo too coast memory, drop your seeding group around the first corner, catch hundreds that started in front of you in the first ten k's very little fun in that especially with slowbee's trying to crash you on downhill.

Tromps why worry? You doing the 42km ride and by that time all of us in the long route will be out of your way then you can nail it past the other riders and have a great race.Thumbs%20Up

This is why I don't do mtb races, I don't ride licenced mtb (do for rd riding) and felt like slitting my wrists after having to walk 5km of hill as the trail was so clogged with walking cyclists who insist on taking up the whole trail
