Only 393 of 572 entrants finished the 66km. Must have been a very tough  race by SA standards!

This race was only 66km. The worlds marathon champs is usually about 120km and takes about 4hrs to complete for the best riders. Is this not the reason why we have so few men really excelling at the worlds,  by having such a short distance for our SA champs race?

Perhaps we should start with a "super marathon" race at our SA's that is about 120km, and that is compulsory for riders wanting to compete at world championships? You can then still have a 66km  for "poefters" that cant sit in the saddle for to long!

....ive got a better idea. why dont we do 2 laps of the 66km. "Poefters" can do one. 2nd lap round the non-poefters can ride through the same mushi mud/sh*t and back markers that the poefters have to contend with.

the 66km was tough but i agree...its still not up to international standards. there was also very little technical single track on the route

Definately doesn't make sense for our guys to do this kind of distance just before the marathon champs though. Perhaps the course is more technical? Although not to the extent of nearly half the distance I'm sure.

May be a good idea to split the event for the elites to do an extended distance, whilst the rest can do the 66km

Although I think someone holds down a fulltime job, pays the house, kids etc ... yet still competes in a 66km MTB event is hardly a 'poefter' !!

If some think that, maybe they should run the 66km instead of riding it, being so hardcore and all.

The results isnt correct. They have all the people that DNS as DNF. I agree the distance seems a bit short, but all Bellairs wants is the SA champs label, he wouldnt care about details like distance.
