The beauty of 2K is that if it is correctly applied it does not require any polishing. It's gives a smooth and shiny finish.

 

The key word there is CORRECTLY. I can show you the dull spots on my bike that proberbly has got 3-4 coats on.

 

 

Oh yes, remember, the colour coat does not need to be 2k unless you are not going to clear it. Only use clear coat if you want the decals to be protected.

Mampara if you gonna clear coat then use 2K as well . 2K has got a hardener that gets mixed into the paint .

 

I know how it works. But if you want to go the  base coat/clear coat route, you do not need to use a 2k for the base coat. It is overkill. Look at metalics, they do not use 2k for the base. It's only the clear that is. And the base colour will dry much quicker then when if it were 2k.

 

BTW, there are now hydro paint out for the base coats. You thin and clean with water. Pricey but cheaper in the long run, if that makes sense.

smiley36.gif I can see you don't spend a lot of time in the spray booth ! There's not a lot of paint that dry as fast as 2k , but if you gonna start mixing diffirent types of paint just be sure they can be mixed . Don't wanna bike to look super cool for 6 months and then starts peeling like a sunstruck pommy . I would really try and stick with one type of paint be it PVA , Hydro or 2k .

Plain base colour is touch dry in minutes without heat and bout 20-40 minutes to be completely dry. 2K takes a few hours. The base colour is just that, the colour, the clear is the protection.

nb, we're all assuming that the chosen colour scheme is non-metallic... tip re metallic - dry-spray it froma distance of about 25-30cm, with 30% over spray. one layer only. then min 3 coats of clearcoat before polishing.

 

2k can dry quickly if correctly applied.

 

NB also allow to dry thoroughly between every single layer of paint (from primer to clear coat)
