why do all the top mt bikers all ride hard tail bikes? Even for tours and rocky route races.  Shorly a duel sus would be a better ride!?

soft tail = comfort

hard tail = light and no loss of power transfer due to rear shock.

Although the newish soft tails are pretty light. (but cost)

Sauser is a top rider and ever rides an epic.

Loss of power and weight too much for the benefit in comfort and control.

As suspension designs improve and become lighter so you see more and more riders racing on full sus.

Hard Tails = lighter + Cheaper and you climb easier with them

I'd rater ride hard tail - don't like the flex of a dual susp.

on rocky ascents, a dual sus will climb better because the back wheels tracks better and is less at risky of bumping all over the place.

Flex? What flex?

FS's clim better that HT's on a bumpy climb, if you climb up a fire road or tar then by all means the HT is better, but who wants to ride boring stuff like that anyway?

I like a HT 'cos it gives me an excuse when I'm last down the singletrack.......now if only I could have an excuse for being last up the fireroad........Wink

On rocky climbs a FS is better..... hmmmmm. Thats pretty subjective.

traction on a MTB has a lot to do with where a riders weight is placed in relation to the rear wheel.

Watching riders on both bikes there is not much difference to the way they move about on the bike, so I think both are getting the benefit of sufficient traction.

What i boils down to is whetheror not you appreciate the extra feedback a hardtail gives vs the isolated feel that a FS gives you.

Races are won and lost on both types so clearly neither is deficient in performance.
