Just changed the shifting bits on my gripshifters and after looking at the internals I reckon I could get a 10th gear in there with a bit o tinkering. Question, does anyone know whether the Sram road derailleurs use the same 2:1 ratio that the MTB ones use.

At present my only major prob is the lack of cassette choices, obviously a 11 - 28/29 is my best bet.

Right so after hours of taking the damn thing apart and then puting it back together I finally managed to get my tenth gear cut into the shifter. Now all I need is a 10 speed cassette with 29 teeth or moreThumbs%20Up. I wonder if I'll get a 10 speed cassette onto a 9speed freehub body.

Not to knock it, but why do you want 10 speeds? Are you still running 3 chain rings? Do you actually need the gears or is it just to see if you can?

Saw a Giant MTB that had a Campag 10 speed installed. They used the triggers off a Campag touring bike. This bike had been run like this for over a year with no problems.

RacerX, the shift ratio on SRAM ESP deraileurs is not exactly one to 1:1 but closer to 1:1.2 The road derailleurs are slightly different again with a Shift ratio of 1:1.4.

Shimano is about 1: 1.8(something)

You may find ot difficult to get the indexing working correctly.

You could order a 10s DoubleTap Trigger shifter for city bikes and fit a 12-27 SRAM Road 10S cassette with the 10s Long Cage rear derailleur.

That should give you a working and reliable 30speed system.

Just wanted to, why not. Yeah I've seen the Chorus hybrid shifters though I think you can only use V-brakes with them.

Only run 2 rings up front 32:44

You get 2 versions of the Chorus shifter, for Caliper or V brakes, but at $400 for a set they are a bit ridiculous. You also need a specific front derailleur for them as well.

Thanks GoLefty, been bashing my head all morning trying to figure out why I said 2:1.

Where did you get those figures, its very interesting how the exact ratio was worked out.

The indexing is working pretty well, I managed to carve another gear in the shifter, will post pics later.

When I have the money I probably go for a 12-29 Token cassette.

Triggers, what u smokingLOL. Gripshift or else I'll convert to road full time.LOL

Not sure. According to Jenson website:

  • Requires flat bar compatible front derailleur
  • Compatible only with Campagnolo rear derailleurs
  • Front shifter works with double or triple chainring
  • Brake levers are compatible with Campagnolo road caliper brakes
  • Includes cables, housing
  • Left Shifter
  • Color: Black
  • FD/Shifter Compatibility: Campy Flat Bar Double
  • Brake Lever Actuation: Short Pull
  • Brake Lever Use: Left
  • Intended Use: Road
  • Right Shifter
  • Color: Black
  • Shifter/Rear Derailleur: Campagnolo
  • Brake Lever Actuation: Short Pull
  • Brake Lever Use: Right
  • Intended Use: Road
  • Drivetrain Spacing: Campagnolo 10
Nice looking though:
