What is the hype about KCNC and Alligator I-link cables?

Are they lightweight components or just nice eye candy on a bike?

If they are lightweight components how much lighter are they than say Dura Ace or Record components? Would it be worth the upgrade from a weight point of view?

Are Chris King hubs also a lightweight component or is it just a quality product. Any weight advantage?

Speedy, if you want to spend hundreds to save a few grams then go for it, but I'm sure it's just to make the bikes look nice and sometimes they don't. The reason why black was invented was becuuse it goes with everything.

The kcnc road bike callipers are almost half the weight of dura ace....and much cheaper. The kcnc bars and stems are also lighter than almost any other product.

On the chris king, I dont think they are very light in comparison to "lightweight" hubsets, but they are simply the best.

KCNC is bling for your bike.  you do save some grams at the end but it is more for the looks.

not sure about the calipers...you'll have to go with MD on that.

KCNC make the lightest gear for the money. Stems are half of what carbon would cost, but lighter. Same with seatposts and handlebars. The added bonus is that scandium is stronger and more "reliable" than carbon.

Their brake calipers are lighter and costs less than DA, SRAM red or Record. MTB cranks are seriously light without noticable flex, but cost a LOT less than XTR.

The rest is bling. Skewers, jockey wheels, bolts...what else is there?

I-Link works great cause it's a fully sealed cable and it's light. Doesn't work on full suspension though.

That's all I can think of for now...

Saw the latest KCNC calipers at Cycle Factory on the weekend. They are unbelievably light and well-made on top of that!

They are dual pivot CNC'ed from Ali with ti hardware and weigh in at around 170g for the pair!!! That's 150g less than Campag and 100g less than SRAM's new soooperlight RED.

According to the agent they will retail for around R2100 for the pair when stock arrives in around two weeks time. As far as I know you can pre-order (for Christmas!) direct from Cycle Factory Store. (021) 552 8285

Yeah I though DA calipers are R2600-00 for the pair, Red Is R2700-00 and Record is stupid expensive at R3400-00.

Against DA and Red I guess there cost advantage is ok, but against Record it's a no brainer. Campag bits are just way too expensive locally. totalcycling is far more reasonable.

I have not used the KCNC calipers. Are they stiff and do they match DA for modulation and power? The DA caliper is the benchmark here..

It's nice to have bling, but is nicer to have quality. Give me a Thomson post and stem or Chris King product before you give me lightweight bling. Offcoarse you pay for what you get.

I don't think the stopping power is anywhere near Record or Dura Ace. I read somewhere that it is probably equivalent to the older single pivot designs from those manufacturers. I still much prefer the Token looks to the Kcnc ones though.

Exactly.

Quality first, light weight next.

Chris King Hubs are expensive to purchase but you keep them forever. Sort of like Campag record Hubs or Dura Ace but much more bling.

Brake calipers is one place where feel saving weight is a very very bad idea.

KCNC is quality bling. I rode CK hubs, now I9, but when it comes to a post it just needs to do the job...without breaking. KCNC is not a cheap product, it's affordable if you get what I'm saying. It's also not light cause they skimp on material. It's light cause they use scandium.

Stopping power of calipers is on par with DA, better than Record if you ask me. Not sure what it'll be like after years and years of use by which time Record will still be doing the job.

I know of several riders who have these on their bike, and none of them have had any issues.

A change of pads can do wonders, though!

Who stocks KCNC in Gauteng?  I wouldn't mind a set of those skewers.
